June 2

Here we are on Day 2 of the Hallie Gets Her Life Together Project! In pursuit of that goal, I did three things today. I joined Linked In, I received an application from a business recruiter, and I searched the Craig's List job postings. Ironically enough, I have to fill out the application for the business recruiter while I'm at work because it's in Word format and I proudly own a Mac. Once you go Mac, you never go back!

As I search for my next opportunity, I'm becoming aware of key words that people use in their job postings that instantly throw out the "Danger, Will Robinson!" vibe. For example, when the posting says "must be able to function in a fast-paced environment" means, "we will run you like a greyhound at the dog track." And, "Looking for flexible multi-tasker" means "we will delegate a bunch of crap to you that's not in your job description." Mommy no-likey.

And now a comment on desperation: Never before in my life have I been so tempted to pack up my desk, tell my boss to take this job and shove it, and live off of cat food and Five-Alive as I have been today. I was thiiiiis close to quitting on the spot. In fact, I sent a text to Babe, telling him that I would sell the house and the car if he'd let me quit today.  And, in the tradition of all good husbands, he told me that I could do whatever makes me happy. And I, in the tradition of all good wives, had an image of my baby in a saggy diaper, a Kool-Aid mustache and dirty K-Mart feet and decided to keep my job.

That moment added extra impetus to my plight. And, this blog has added extra accountability to my search, so thank you unnamed masses for keeping my eyes on the ball.

Tomorrow is Friday, thank Blog, and I will be looking forward to the weekend, potential job leads, and the speedy completion of my business recruiter application from my desk on the Lido Deck of the Death Star.
